LOSING THE ENCOUNTER OF FACE TO FACE
Have we begun to lose the encounter of face to face communication? Are we raising a generation who is becoming more inept at personal conversation? Do we resemble robotic machines walking around on two human legs? I don’t know about you, but more and more it sure seems like it. For instance, have you seen the TV commercial where a twenty-something couple, a man and a woman… (I shouldn’t have to state that!), are sitting in a restaurant and one texts the other across the table that they are breaking up? Suddenly they look up from their techy gadgets and look at each another with surprise and consternation. It’s kind of funny, but it’s not. The sadness of the breakup of their relationship is par with the manner in which they convey it.
What?! This is absurd! Could this not have been said verbally face to face? Did it have to be texted? Is this what we’re coming to?! Are our family, friends, kids and grandkids going to be able to actually talk to us or other people in person, face to face? Of course they will. It’s human nature!
However, it must be noted the rapid rise of a generation that’s becoming dependent on technological devices rather than personal communication face to face. The quick text methods are also causing much loss of the proper written language as well. But that’s another story! Nevertheless, the rapid and ever rising modern technology is absolutely wonderful in many ways but must take its proper place in our society. Observing many of the commercials on TV, it’s apparent how accustomed we’ve become to all our ‘bells, whistles, ringing, beeping and blinking’ devices - some of which are beginning to divide not unite as noted in the aforementioned TV commercial. This is key; to divide or unite? We will have to make consciousness decisions for the latter.
Let’s take this to a deeper, spiritual level. As a Christian, what is the status of your personal encounter with the lover of your soul, the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you know Him face to face? Do you know the sound of His voice? When was the last time you wept at being in the profound Presence of the Lord? Do you encounter His divine Presence on a daily basis? Do you seek for spiritual intimacy with Him knowing Him up close and personal? The answer to these questions are good indicators of how deep your relationship and commitment is to the Lord. Psalm 28:8 declares, “When Thou didst say, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to Thee, ‘Thy face, O Lord, I shall seek.” Just how close are you to the Son of God?
When we’re standing close to our husband, wife, or child…we can actually feel their breath. It’s the same with God. Getting extremely close and personal with Him is exactly what is meant in Song of Songs 1:2 when it says, “May He kiss me with the kisses of His mouth, for your love is better than wine.” Knowing God’s Breath, His Word (Deut. 30:14) in spiritual intimacy is life changing! Encountering His holy Presence strengthens you and gives you victory every single day!
I knew I was ‘on to something’ for this month’s IWG Journal as I ran across two different articles about how all this new technology is actually beginning to rewire our brains! And I might add - our hearts!
One was from the March 27th issue of USA Today by Sharon Jayson. Her article was titled, “Ever-present devices can push our crazy buttons,’ and the subtitle below read, “Technology might rewire our brains.” She wrote of a young gentleman who lives in San Francisco who’s now studying the effects of all these buzz things in our lives. He gave credence to the lack of face to face communication saying, “I can reach a lot more people now, but strong ties? Strong ties are very few for me. I feel like the technology has made us a little lazier in keeping up and working on strong relationships…What’s that going to do to us? It’s a little scary.” Well said, don’t you think?! Here’s a young guy whose already sensing the ‘division’ of these instruments rather than the ‘uniting.’
This newspaper article also spoke of all the books currently being published about how the addiction to these modern devices is changing our lives and not always for the better. It said that some worry more time online means missing out on important FACE TO FACE interactions. Another added that he “worries about the developing brains of kids in middle and high school saying he hopes we won’t get a generation with no patience and everyone has attention deficit disorder.” Another mentioned seeing more “narcissistic personalities developing along with obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction and depression among others.” Now that is scary!
Likewise as I read an article in the spring issue of Homecoming Magazine, there was an interesting article about how we’re all dragging around these ‘tin cans’ – meaning our iPhones, iPods, iPads, Blackberries, Smart phones, etc. and all the ‘apps’ available! I can’t even go into all of it here other than to say that many of these devices have certainly taken away the personal touch.
Seek Him face to face
The question we have to answer as a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus is, “Are we having an on-going, personal, ever deepening spiritual communication with Him?” If not, why not? Nothing else will do! Daily personal encounters with Him are essential. We can’t get these things from our Pastor, our Sunday school teachers, our evangelists, our prophets or ‘on line.’ We must know God for ourselves. Could it be we’re relying too heavily on someone else’s experiences with Him? Now is the time to spend personal TIME with the divine lover of our soul. He desires our company too you know! “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10) Enjoy His company! Enjoy your God!
There are a thousand ways to saturate our mind these days with Twitter, email, Face Book, TV, smart Phones…etc. It can be overwhelming and extremely time consuming. I can’t even remember what our days were filled with just a decade ago. I bet my parents could tell me!
All these things are good – IF used properly. But perhaps it’s time to assess our consumption of these things and ask ourselves, “How is it affecting my life?” Am I so absorbed in staying in ‘touch’ with all these social media outlets that I’m really not being ‘social’ at all in my home or in my personal relationships? Are we so absorbed in reality TV shows that we’re beginning to think that’s normal?! Are we so absorbed in high stakes, high paying sports that our lives revolve totally around it? What about constant texting, etc? Where do these things leave us? Are we for REAL? Are we ‘dummies’? Are we mannequins or robots? How is this affecting our relationship with our loved ones, and the most important relationship of all, our Lord?!
All this to say, precious saints, that if we lose our personal touch with our Lord, we’re in big trouble! So let’s all work on our daily face to face encounter with Him. More than at any other time in the history of humanity I feel it’s urgent that we literally cling to Psalm 105:4: “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually.” Don’t lose Him! And don’t forget to read His text (the Bible)!
HOLY COMMUNION! HOLY INVASION!
Ladies and gentlemen of the Most High God, prepare for an epic revival of Holy Communion! An epiphany of revelation, insight and understanding is beginning to flow as a mighty river in these current days of the Church.
I want to encourage you to begin to take Holy Communion in a much more intimate way than you ever have in the past. Set aside old traditions and go after the fresh, deep and profound encounter with the Lamb of God in this sacred act because that’s what it’s always meant to be. In my forthcoming book (this year) titled: ‘Holy Communion! Holy Invasion!’ as well as my new CD by the same title, you will personally experience the divine invasion of the Lord in this profound depth of worship. It’s going to a whole new level! Time and space here does not permit me to say much more. However, may I encourage you to get the CD and coming book (when it’s released) to aide your spiritual journey. You’ll be amazingly and powerfully blessed!
Each month during 2012 in these IWG monthly Journals, I will give you one of my intimate Communion prayers for you to use either in your private or corporate communion times. The ones shared in the Journals will not be the ones contained in the CD however. Nevertheless, all of them are quite intimate and very personal as I share my deepest encounters with the Lamb of God.
If you’d be so kind, please share with me your own encounters with God using these materials or the prayers contained in these monthly Journals. And be sure to let others know as well!
HOLY COMMUNION PRAYER
(Journaled on 1/3/12 at 1:48 AM)
All in all
O Lamb of God, as this holy bread melts into my mouth, melt me into Your heart. Melt me into Your divine and perfect will. Do not let me wander by myself in this life journey of earthly existence. I am desperate for You! I continue to be extremely needy of You, just as it shall always be while I’m clothed in this frail humanity.
Thy Body and Blood comfort me as I eat and drink its truths divine. So holy! So, very, very holy! As You, O Lamb of God, gave your all for me, may I give my all for You. My soul longs for ALL! All that You bought for me with Your torture on Calvary’s cross – all my healing, all my deliverance, all my freedom! You are my all in all!
Change and transform all of my heart, all of my body. I belong to You forevermore. Your Body and Blood - this holy bread and wine, completes my life. I am made whole. There are no ‘fragments’ in my life, only wholeness, healing and transformation. Glory!
This cup is the wine of love! This is deep, divine, holy, glorious LOVE! O Jesus, Jesus, You laid Your life down in love for me. ALL for me! I am amazed at Your value of me. I am a priceless treasure to You. I am worth more than this world can calculate because Your love is full, rich, abiding and endless. And I am happily in love with You! O how You flood my heart with joy, O Lamb of God!
I drink in this divine, spiritual intimacy with an overflowing heart of love for You. O what great joy You are to my entire being! ALL of my life is filled with Your glory. And I stand in awe of You. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!
