WATCH FOR DECEPTION
The downfall of deception can be noted in those who do not know the scriptures, the holy, powerful Word of God. No other words ever spoken by any human being carries the weight, majesty, glory, authority and power of God’s own Breath, His God-Breathed scriptures. (2 Tim. 3:16) Previous verses in this same chapter say: “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But evil men and imposters will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (12-13) The lesson here is beware, be alert, be knowledgeable. Know God’s Breath for your own self inside and out. There’s simply no other way to know for certain if you’re being deceived or not. But it’s more than knowledge, my dear friend, it’s relationship with Him - it’s intimacy with God.
The holy scriptures are the Lord’s beautiful love letter to us. The greatest book in all of human history ought to be read and reread countless times during the course of one’s walk with God. Sadly, many simply do not care to linger within its divine pages. Many do not want to take the time to do so because of earthly attractions and distractions.
We are nearing a time in the history of humanity, where more than ever, we’re going to need the love and knowledge of this sacred book, the Bible. Why? Deception is creeping in at an alarming rate, even into the church world. How do you know for yourself what is truth and what is not? Do you know THE BOOK – HIS BOOK?!
The saga of fallen man in the Garden of Eden, recorded in Genesis, began with the words of satan, “Did God really say…?” Human history will end this way as well. Is anyone paying attention? Is anyone listening to the Voice of God Most High? Is anyone imbibing in His Divine Breath to know if they are being deceived or not? Isn’t it time we know that for sure? Isn’t it time we fall madly in love with the Lord’s keynote address to humanity, His revealed Word in scripture? It’s more critical than ever before!
I read an article recently that said a Muslim man was raised from the dead. Likewise, I read another article about a young woman who was also raised from the dead. Neither were Christians. So let’s take a closer look this.
The woman later committed suicide, so it doesn’t appear her miracle was wrought by the holy power of Jesus Christ, Lord of lords and King of kings. No! It was a façade! Jesus tells us that we will know the truth, the truth will set us free, and we will know people by their ‘fruit.’ In other words, what does one’s life reflect? The Lord or satan? Luke 3:9 tells us that if we do not bear good fruit, we will be cut down. (See also Matt. 3:8, 7:16-20) Jesus warns us many times in the Gospels of these kinds of deceptions…things that appear to be wonderful, but are not!
Soak in God’s Word where you will learn the true supernatural of God from demonic facades. Exodus 7 and 8 is a prime example. Egyptian magicians were able to replicate and perform many of the signs and wonders that Moses and Aaron did. But those magician’s power came through the demonic. They do have power too you know, but that only goes so far! Their falsehoods even turned the Nile River into blood, but it was not ‘holy blood’ from on High as it was when God’s servants obeyed Him! As God instructed Moses to do more and more of the signs and wonders that would lead to their RELEASE FROM BONDAGE in Egypt, the magicians simply could not copy the appointed and anointed, especially when it came to the blood of the lamb over their doorposts! Fast forward to the last book of the Bible where we learn of mankind’s conclusion. Revelation 12:11 says that those who know, serve and love God unashamedly, will overcome by the blood of the Lamb of God – the Lord Jesus Christ!
You and I must simply learn, know, and discern God’s holy Truth, so we aren’t taken in by demonic deception. Even the ungodly magicians in Exodus had to conclude: ‘This is the finger of God’ as they saw all the miraculous things taking place to set the Hebrew children free! Are you free, or are you in some kind of bondage? Do you know the Lord God up close and personal like Moses and Aaron? Those in relationship with God Most High have the same access to Him as they did. You too can be free! You too can live a life full of Gods’ anointed power with victory to get through every trial that may come your way while traveling earth’s existence. It’s not complicated. It’s there for all the world to see for those who will read His Word, study it, love it and live it.
Hardness of heart
Further study into these chapters of Exodus in the Bible exposes another falsehood – false repentance like that of Pharaoh! He asks Moses to make supplication for him, even confessing his sins, yet never softening his heart unto true repentance that leads to everlasting life. (Ex. 9:27-30, 34; 10:3,16-17,20) Beware of those who say they believe in God, may even testify to living for Him, but as Pharaoh of Egypt, they may have a hardened heart on the inside. You will know them by their fruit. Is their fruit rotting on the vine leaving trails of sorrow, heartache and pain, or is there a sweet fragrance of Christ in their lives that leaves trails of love and hope? (Matt. 7:20; 2 Cor. 2:14-16)
Matthew 24 is key as Jesus says in verse 4-5, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.” In verses 11-12, He goes on to say, “Many false prophets will arise and mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.” (My emphasis)
God’s Word instructs us to be passionately committed to Him. Nothing less will do because Revelation 3:16 says that even the lukewarm believer may be on the verge of being lost! Ponder as well, Matthew 25:1-13, where half of the virgins did not get to go away with the bridegroom because they had no oil, no fire, no passion, no light, no revelation and no true commitment –their lamps grew dark, cold and useless. Revelation 2:5 is also an eye-opener where we’re warned our lamp stand could be removed. Our names could indeed be erased from the Lamb’s book of Life if we’re not careful and deeply committed to Him at all costs. Know God for yourself and get to know His Word intimately or else you may be in danger of losing everything in the end. (See Rev. 3:5; Ex. 32:32; Ps. 69:28; Luke 10:20; Rev. 13:8, 17:8, 20:12 & 15, 21:27; Matt. 10:32; Luke 12:8) These are very serious words in God’s Divine Breath!
So just how bright, hot, and committed is our lamp stand before the Lord? Why not ‘live the life’ in the Lord Jesus we’re ordained to have right now, today? Life is much shorter than we think and could conclude at any given moment.
Are you and I truly walking with our Lord and Savior in EVERY area of our lives, especially the secret parts of our hearts? A half-hearted commitment can very quickly turn to wickedness. Pharaoh of Egypt was a fake and a phony! It’s time for a heart check up with Dr. Jesus, the healer of all our hurts, anxieties, pains, losses and all that this world throws at us to smother the life of God right out of us!
False signs and wonders
Many people are being lured into deception. The quickest defense for that is to KNOW GOD’S WORD, the Holy Scriptures. Some are playing with fire seeking wisdom in all the wrong places – ungodly places, such as daily horoscopes to see how their day or month may go or before making important decisions. They’ll consult mediums, spiritists, sorcery, fortune tellers, false meditations, gurus, and of course, false religions (of which the earlier statement regarding the Muslim man rising from the dead). One must take note how some of these can indeed do signs and wonders just as the magicians in Exodus, but we’re warned in God’s Word to be alert to these falsehoods.
In 1 Samuel 28, King Saul called on a medium (spiritist) to bring up the deceased prophet Samuel for advice. Saul was given no encouragement but condemnation, as he learned of his own demise because the holy prophet gave sharp words to Saul. Now that’s shocking, is it not?! Yes, these false religions do have power, as we see with Saul who disobeyed the Lord, but it is not the HOLY, ULTIMATE POWER OF GOD MOST HIGH. Therefore, it is to be condemned, just as the Muslim man who was raised from the dead and the woman who later committed suicide (as did Saul). So I encourage each one of us, to take heed to God’s Word of holy truths that we not be deceived by such displays, for it may mean certain death – eternally!
For our own good, we should abide in God’s Word – all of it, because we are continually warned in many places of scripture to beware of falsehoods. Jeremiah is one of many references saying in 9:6, “ ‘Your dwelling is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know Me,’ declares the Lord.” Ephesians 5 is interesting as it says in part… “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience…walk in the light…all things become visible when they are exposed by the light…awake sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” So let’s wake up!
The world is full of empty words, words that have no true power like the magicians of ancient Egypt. Whose words are you listening to? Take into account the Gospel of John as this book of the Bible opens with these words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Know His Word and what He says, not what the world says! Let’s chime in with Peter in John 6:68, “Lord to whom shall we go? YOU HAVE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE.” (My emphasis)
We are told of the End Times apostasy that will come. Are we there now? Perhaps. 2 Thessalonians 2 speaks of the evil one who comes at earth’s end with great power, lawlessness and deceptions of wickedness doing false signs and wonders. And people will be drawn to it! This book in the New Testament reveals how many people will perish because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved and sinners will believe in deluding influences, not taking pleasure in God’s truths. So we certainly need to know God’s truths as revealed in His Divine Word of the scriptures. It’s really a matter of life and death. Indeed, if you or I are not feeling alive and purposeful, could it be we’re not partaking of His Divine Breath in this way?
We certainly need to take a closer look at the last book of the Bible, Revelation, – the only one that has yet to be lived out! It’s an eye opener to say the least. Chapter 13 tells of the beast (satan) who will deceive many hearts, those who may have had good intentions, but never acted upon them. Beware. (See also Rev. 3:16) This moment, while we still have breath, is the day of salvation so act now. (Heb. 3) This beast in Revelation dies, rises from the dead, and then everyone on the globe who does not worship him and have his mark (the number 666) will not be able to buy or sell. That will certainly bring about economic bedlam for believers! But do not fear, O followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, because we overcome by the blood of the Holy Lamb of God! “Fear God and give Him glory!” (Rev. 14:7)
“Little children, make sure no one deceives you.” (1 John 3:7) And that, my friend, is how we get through today, tomorrow, and all eternity. It’s by the Word of God through Jesus Christ and our testimony thereof. Hallelujah!

Kim’s hunger for the Lord is truly inspiring. She’s a beautiful woman inside and out and is filled with so much compassion and love for people that it’s contagious! I remember the first time she went on a hermitage with our ministry and the wonderful experience it was for her. Now she goes every year! Kim has a passion and a heart to see revival come to individuals as well as to the corporate body. Along with her husband, Rick, they are currently serving as pastors at The Dwelling Place in Clarion, Iowa. Kim and her husband have 3 grown children, 2 grandchildren and 1 grandson due to arrive in August.
I love to hear the sound of a gentle rain falling upon the ground especially during times when there has been a lack of rain. Since we are farmers, we depend on the timely rains to help ensure a great harvest. There have been several times I have thought about the lack of rains we encountered last year. There would be many times I would stand outside and look up to see if there was a chance of a rain cloud. When the clouds would become darkened, there was a stirring that would rise up inside of me hoping that we would receive a fresh rain. Earlier this year, we received an over abundance of rain that prevented us getting our planting done in a timely manner. The Lord began to speak clearly that He is beginning to pour out a spiritual rain upon this land. What has been spiritually dry is becoming saturated with His heavenly rain.
So many of God’s people are experiencing spiritual dryness and their hearts that once longed for God and His presence, have become hardened and parched. Oh how God wants to rain down His power and His presence but only if His people would cry out to Him. Elijah declared boldly to King Ahab there was going to be a famine in the land because of idolatrous worship that was taking place. After three years, the word of the Lord comes to Elijah and tells him to present himself to Ahab and He would send rain on the earth. (1 Kings 18:1) Elijah tells Ahab to send and gather all of Israel to Mount Carmel as well as the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah. Elijah comes to all the people and says, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal, follow him”. (1 Kings 18:21). The people didn’t even respond; there was no repentance. The people of Israel were in a spiritually lukewarm condition. They wanted to give some devotion to both Yahweh (God) and Baal, but God was not pleased with this divided attention. We as God’s people do not have the option to have other gods and other lovers in our life. What would it look like if God’s people were to decide today that they would follow Him wholeheartedly and would love and serve Him with all that is inside of them? What would that look like for you?
Our God is an All-Consuming Fire and He wants to consume every part of your being with all that He is. God wants to revive you in such a way where your life is never the same again. Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground and put his face between his knees”. (1 Kings 18:41-42) This was no ordinary position of prayer. This was a posture of intercession before the Lord! Oh how God desires His people to cry out to Him on behalf of our families, our cities, our region, our state, and our nation. What will it take for God’s people to rise up and begin to declare, “I’m no longer going to run after worthless idols, but I’m going to run after God and pursue Him.”
One moment in His presence, will forever change you! God wants to revive you. He wants to breathe His holy breath upon the embers of your heart. He wants to ignite you and set you ablaze! God wants to use you to advance His kingdom for His glory and His purposes. May our hearts cry out, “Lord God of Israel, send us Your heavenly rain. Saturate us with who You are. Revive and restore us. May your holy rain produce a fragrance that we continually long for.”
