HOW FIERY ARE YOU?
- Be sure to check ‘Announcements’ for the upcoming Worship War Room, the Women’s Fall Hermitage and the Cancer Walk for Linda
The fiery evening skies in the picture above brought all kinds of thoughts to my heart the evening I took that photo. I pondered the passion in people’s hearts, especially as we’ve been watching the conventions for the upcoming presidential elections in our country. You know, there’s something to be said about people who are passionate about certain things that keep them fired up. They usually have strong motives and are willing to go to great measures to see a certain thing accomplished. But we’re all aware that there are bad passions as well as good ones. ISIS certainly is an extreme example of the bad. But what about good people who are looking to see better things take place? What about Christians of our generation? Just today I saw a quote on Facebook that came from the Christian movie, “War Room.” It was quoting Miss Clara who said, “Don’t leave out Jesus. Everyone’s always trying to leave out Jesus, which is one reason we’re in the mess we’re in.” Well said, don’t you think?
I also just read a quote by Billy Graham who recently said: “One of the pet words of this age is tolerance. People plead for broad-mindedness, tolerance and charity.” And he goes on to say much about this and how “… in some things, Jesus was the most tolerant, broad-minded Person who ever lived, but in other things He was one of the most intolerant. He was intolerant toward hypocrisy, selfishness, sin. He was tolerant toward the sinner, but intolerant toward the evil that enslaves the sinner… In the realm of Christian experience there is a need for intolerance in certain areas…Jesus said narrow is the way of salvation…the broad, wide, easy way leads to death.” Then Billy goes on to quote John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
This is definitely ‘food for thought.’ Which side of the fence are you and I on? Aligning with the easy, sleasy worldly ways or the narrow way of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior? One is very popular and doesn’t carry much cost personally – at least not that can be discerned by outside standards. But the other - the narrow way of a truly deeply committed Christian comes with great cost of oneself.
Jesus is explicit
In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus states it boldly: “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Probably the saddest words stated here are ‘few who find it’! Why is this? Because most want to go the way of the world, even many so-called ‘church-goers’ because it’s the easy way to go with the crowd, with the majority, with the path of least resistance. It’s very sad that many do not even know what God’s recorded Word says in the Bible! But it’s time true believers wake up! Truly, time is of the essence. There is not a one of us breathing at this moment in time, who has the next minute assured to us. I can attest to this even more so as I’ve been fighting cancer for two years. Believe me, that kind of battle makes you think much deeper than you could ever imagine. But personally, I love knowing where I’m going when I depart this sphere of influence of earthy things! O precious friends, get on board now. Let your heart be drenched and delighted in the power and glory of God’s Word so that you will have deep, abiding joy in your heart.
If anyone reading this has their heart set in reading and knowing God’s will through His written word, then you know very well the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is found in Genesis 18 and 19. Fortunately for Abraham’s nephew, Lot, he escaped the angel of death, but he had lived within the realm of compromise by living among the godless, yet not reaching out to them. When the Lord showed Abraham the destruction He had planned for it, he tries to intercede by asking for the righteousness within the city not to be destroyed along with the ungodly. But when the Lord says there aren’t even 10 people in the city who have lived righteously, that’s sad! But what about our city? How many are living a compromised lifestyle putting themselves in jeopardy of losing their life for all eternity? We must pray! We must speak out and share about the eternal life found only through our Lord Jesus Christ. Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”
The Gospel of Luke uses strong language in this regard. (10:10-12) “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ I say to you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.” These are words straight from the Word of God of course, and not mine. The Lord is definitely passionate about His people being hot for Him, never compromising His standards of holiness and purity.
In the last book of the Bible, Revelation, chapter 2:20-21 is just as explicit saying, “But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. I gave her time to repent, and she does not want to repent of her immorality.” [My emphasis]
This ‘tolerance issue’ has left us with a broadening licentious society of the pursuit of personal pleasure. It doesn’t appear that too many are seeking the deeper, higher life in the Lord with purity and purpose for an eternal life after this earthly one. Rather, the tolerance issue is rampantly growing wider and wiping out godly standards. When I was a kid many years ago attending public school, we opened each day with the Pledge of Allegiance and the ‘Our Father’ prayer. It’s sad to see how far our country has moved away from righteousness. Men and women living together without a marriage covenant is the norm of the day but it’s ushering in confusion to any children in the home. The adults’ relationship are entangled in a web of unrighteousness and ungodliness causing an identity crisis for the children in those homes. The whole LBGTQ issue is off the charts with acceptance and tolerance even luring so-called believers into its web of defiance, destruction and certain eternal death. Not knowing what the Lord God Almighty says about these things in His written Word brings condemnation to one’s soul.
We simply can’t keep standing by, watching lives go to waste, can we? Beloved believers, we must step up and lead the way - if not you and I, then who? Beware of hate talk. It destroys. Love, kindness and all the ways of God, bring healing and restoration to a shattered soul. Billy Graham’s ministry says it like it is and always with compassion and love. We must always remember that we too were once sinners, but now are saved by God’s divine, holy, wonderful grace. And that commitment must be acted upon daily! Don’t leave it in the ashes of public opinion! God’s way is the only way, truth, and life in the here and now, and forevermore!
As believers in the Lord Jesus, we are to be intolerant of sin and follow in His footsteps of compassion for people who do not know Him. Thus this sacred walk with Him causes holy compassion to arise in our souls. The Bible tells us plainly in Revelation 3:16 that the Lord beckons us to be passionately in hot pursuit of His Presence and power saying that to be lukewarm is a dangerous place to be. Unfortunately, it seems there are a growing number of denominations that seem to becoming more and more tolerant of today’s widening public opinions and acceptance of sin in its many facets. This couldn’t be more dangerous! Too many do not know the Holy Book of the Lord for themselves and are being led to slaughter with lies from the pit of hell. It’s extremely dangerous!
Each one of us must be responsible for knowing the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help us God! When one takes an oath, it must be to a higher authority who will make them accountable. There is no higher authority in all of existence than that of God Almighty. To whom do you swear allegiance? To whom are you accountable? We must all seek after the Lord all the days of our life, not just on Sundays. Jeremiah 15:19-20 encourages us saying: “Therefore, thus says the Lord, ‘If you return, then I will restore you – Before Me you will stand; and if you extract the precious from the worthless, you will become My spokesman. They for their part may turn to you, but as for you, you must not turn to them. Then I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; and though they fight against you, they will not prevail over you; for I am with you to save you and deliver you,’ declares the Lord.” Don’t fear the world. Fear God!
There always is more! No one can ever get to the fullness of knowing God Almighty. He is eternal and we will wonderfully have forever and ever to keep discovering His majesty, splendor and power and so much more! No wonder the Four Living Creatures in Revelation 4 keep circling His Throne day and night, they never cease to say: “Holy! Holy! Holy!” How utterly amazing can that be?! Let not one of us be caught with a lukewarm heart, or worse yet, a cold heart that’s not accepted Jesus, or once believed, but left His side. Revelation 3:16 is direct when it tells us we would be spit out of the Lord’s mouth, as being a bad taste. Oh, how dangerously some are living these days! It has caused many to lose their passionate pursuit of the Lord.
Someone has to say it!
There are two forces at work in the world, good and evil. It’s been true since the first two people, Adam and Eve, were placed on earth and they rebelled against their Creator. Thankfully God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to bring us back into fellowship with Him through His shed blood at Calvary’s Cross. Sin is still sin. We all need a savior. Jesus is His name. All have sinned says the Bible, God’s holy book of salvation and love. But acceptance and tolerance for sin, as in Sodom and Gomorrah or Nineveh, shows our great need to be ‘born again’ spiritually, deep within our souls. It’s just not about the LBGTQ agenda or false religions or rituals. It’s about compromising any of God’s truths in all of His Word that simply shows how we have all fallen short of the glory of God that He fully intended us to have. [Rom. 3:23] We all need a savior! His Name is Jesus! He died on Calvary’s torturous cross for all of humanity’s sinfulness and depravation. “…And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” Accepting His love in full repentance of one’s sins is a heavenly gift to be sure! It changes lives from the inside and out, and for all eternity!
