- A Father's Heart and His Principled Presence, by Guest Columnist, Andrew Boskaljon
The picture of me in this month’s IWG Journal shows imprinting my hands with paint on a rebuilt and freshly painted trailer that used to belong to my dad, Gunner. He passed away the day after Valentine’s Day this year and we miss him greatly. He had such a sense of humor and was one of the most wonderful men you’d ever want to meet. Our oldest daughter and son-in-law, decided to gather all the family and make a kind of memorial by placing our handprints on dad’s trailer with paint. There were also some of his favorite ‘sayings’ on it as well. We had a wonderful day of honoring my dad in this unusual manner.
My dad died suddenly of a heart attack with no chance to say goodbye or for last words to be spoken. But we all knew his heart and how he loved the Lord. Oftentimes, he would be the one to grab our hands, make a circle and say a simple prayer or ask one of us to lead it before family gatherings. I’ve often written in these Journals that we are called by the Lord to leave a good legacy. My dad did just that!
This past year we’ve lost loved ones and friends. It has brought to light more than ever what one soul leaves behind. Legacy is indeed important. What shall our own last words be?
Last month my husband and I were at a fundraising event and met up with an acquaintance. She had recently lost her adult son-in-law and asked us what we thought the meaning was of his last few words. When she told us, we were amazed and knew immediately what they meant. As he lay dying taking his last earthly breaths, he said, “Home. Home. Home. Wow!” Obviously he was slipping through the earthly veil into the eternal realm of God’s glory where a place has been made for him as a believer in the Lord Jesus.
First glimpse of heaven
My husband and I thought those were amazingly wonderful words for a man to speak as he left this world. Most certainly he was getting his first glimpse of heaven. It must be an utterly beautiful sight to behold! Our prayer should be that all will enter in!
Those astute last words came to me again recently as I thought to myself, “What would my last words be?” I didn’t really want to think of that, but it seemed to overwhelm me. Another question would be, “Would there even be time for any last words?” Perhaps this all sounds a little grim for the month of December when we’re all celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus, but it has everything to do with it – and HIM! He is after all, the reason for the season, or so it’s supposed to be. But much of worldly commerce has turned it into something entirely different. Now it seems to be more about the god of this world than the God of heaven.
But let me remind you again of the words of a dying man of faith: “Home. Home. Home. Wow!” Can we say that when we cross over into eternity? Perhaps recently you watched what may have been Billy Graham’s last public words as he broadcast a message around the world on his 95th birthday. His words were timeless. No doubt, he will be going ‘home’ in the not too distant future and it was on his heart to leave this world with the strongest words he’s ever known or preached: “Come to the Cross of Christ.”
So the other day, I wrote down my last words. For posterity’s sake, here they are: “Fall madly in love with God’s Word!”
One Word, One Author
Of all the prolific authors throughout the centuries, there is only ONE AUTHOR who’s words and works count for all time and into eternity itself. It is God Almighty Himself - God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16) We are called by this divine, authoritative, powerful author to “…fix [ing} our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (See also Heb 12:2; See also 5:9; 1 Cor. 14:33)
Fall in love with Jesus, God’s Word made flesh [John 1], Who dwelt among us and was born in Bethlehem all those years ago for the very purpose stated in John 3:16. Most are familiar with that verse: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” What a spectacular event Jesus’ birth was! Skies lit up with astounding heavenly lights, the angelic host of heaven singing anthems of glory for such a display of God’s Divine Breath sent to earth! Don’t be so concerned about the worldly displays in department stores, or holiday celebrations that center around man rather than the Lord of heaven and earth. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a display like the one God sent 2,013 years ago when the Word of God was made flesh. It was a ONE TIME EVENT FOR ALL OF TIME FOR ALL HUMANITY. It’s the precursor for what’s to come to those who believe in the Lord Jesus at the End of the Age. What was so glorious then, still is. Nothing of this world can compare to it. Once you have God’s Word in you, you are never the same again.
God’s Word is the only Word that counts for every human being. As an author myself, I could write a million, billion, zillion words or more in these IWG Journals or in my books, and not one of them would compare to the eternal Word of God which is full of glory and power forever and ever.
Home - Wow!
A number of years ago I had a prolific dream about God’s Word. I’ll share that in a moment, but let me say up front, that God’s people need to be on alert! We are in danger of losing our rights as Christians in this country ‘to have and to hold’ the Bible in our hands and to meet at will to pray its glorious pages. There are already many Christians around the world today, who are losing their lives if they even have a Bible in their possession! Amos 8:11 is upon us: “‘Behold days are coming,’ says the Lord God, ‘when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord.’” Believers are going to be tested to see whether or not they treasure the Holy Scriptures by adhering to its divine road map to eternal glory. “Man does not live on bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from God.” (Rom. 10:8)
Most of us are aware of the fanfare of Opening Night when a new movie comes out. There is so much excitement and anticipation because many want to be among the ‘first to see it’ that they’ll wait in line for hours in all kinds of weather, etc. In this dream, it was the Opening Night (perhaps like it was that Bethlehem night as Shepherds looked on)…and people we’re lining up by the thousands with lines that stretched for many city blocks so they could ‘SEE GOD’S WORD.’ And it was literally just that in the dream – just ONE WORD, not a sentence, not a paragraph, or even a chapter. In fact, it was only a few letters of one word, kind of like what you’d see in the game ‘Scrabble.’ People were very excited and were there because they’d heard… and wanted to SEE, the power of the word, God’s Word - it’shealing, deliverance, grace, mercy, forgiveness, victory, glory, majesty, splendor and awe beyond belief! I awoke from this dream greatly encouraged with the message that truly, many souls around the world will begin to fall passionately in love with the Word of God - the Holy Scriptures.
The Bible is ‘God-breathed.’ (2 Tim. 3:16) Therefore we must breathe it in, let it resuscitate us by reading it, devouring it, living it and knowing victory on a daily basis. It’s like spiritual CPR -
Christ Performing Resuscitation! It’s our life, our sustenance, our now and our eternity. It’s our snack, our hors d’oeuvres, our main course, dessert, meat, drink, life, liberty and the pursuit of godly, holy, pure, heavenly happiness that has purpose and eternal rewards beyond human measure!
Words were found
God’s Word is our lifeline, our breath of life now and in the hereafter. Truly it is sustenance filled with awe and glory. The Bible declares in Jeremiah 15:16, “Thy Words were found and I did eat them.” God Almighty commands Ezekiel in chapters 3 and 4 to eat the scroll! Psalm 34:8 bids us to “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 119 is the longest one with 176 verses and it’s all about the power and glory of God’s Word. It concludes saying “…the sum of Your Word is truth…” It’s what we need today and at the hour of our death – and, what we’ll need to begin our eternal life.
If you haven’t already, with the year ending and a new one about to start, now is an especially a good time to ask the Word made flesh, Jesus our Savior, to save your soul, transform your life here and now, so you indeed have a ‘hereafter.’ Let your words be, “As for me and my house, [your heart] I will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) Remember these ol’ sayings? “Home is where the heart is.” And - “There’s no place like home!” Truly, if there were ever a time in your life to make sure you have an eternal home, now is the time to secure it with this prayer: “Lord, I am a sinner, and I ask your forgiveness for my sins. Come into my life and make me brand new again, so I can start anew with a life of victory. I will love and serve you all the days of my life. Amen.”
“Home. Home. Home. Wow!”
In regard to the Nov. IWG Journal of what I wrote about in the article ‘Weary of the Predictable,’ is being confirmed by many. There is a noteworthy one on the Elijah List with a prophetic word by Bob Jones. He says in part: Church services like we've known in the past and present are coming to an end because there's going to be a significant change. We can't continue on the same road we've been on and expect the Holy Spirit to anoint it. The old system of doing things is coming to an end and we are in for a new beginning.
It's only a remnant that will enter into it. There's a hunger and thirst for the next step, and those who have remained steadfast through these years of testing shall advance to the next level of authority. And many shall be those who follow them because the religious spirit will be put to death. When it tries to raise its head, the Body will quickly discern it and not allow it to take root in the Body again because Holy Fire will devour it.

“Linda, I am so with longing for the same things!...We must get past the fear of man and what people think. We must be willing to lose our dignity… I admire Mike and how he talks about the Lord. I admire that you guys are not afraid to show your love in pictures.” Iowa
“I so appreciated reading your newsletter, relating to so much within—a good majority of what was said seemed like an echo of my most recent days and weeks. Michael’s message was greatly encouraging as well and right to the point…Sure enjoyed your ‘Italian kiss!’” Nebraska
“Just got done reading your latest newsletter…Mike’s article was beyond excellent and so touched my spirit. It’s exactly, precisely, where and what I am and have been thinking for so many months now, that I’ve been tempted to grow weary. What a shot in the arm your article was! I feel like you gave my spirit man a huge B-12 shot, just an enormous infusion of energy. God bless you mightily. Thank you so much. ” California
“Love reading your journal and so identify with your thoughts…somehow, for me, God often shows up the greatest in places outside the church buildings…like nursing homes. No matter how good a song or sermon session, ministering to others is on the Father’s heart… While administering Communion, we so ‘felt’ the presence of the Lord.” Iowa
“Just want you to know how blessed I was reading the November newsletter. My heart ached as I read your desire because I too have the same one…Have to tell you that I appreciate it when you do the newsletters. I know you need a break and that others hear from God too, but there’s something about the way you see this journey. “ Iowa
A Father's Heart and His Principled Presence
By Andrew Boskaljon, Guest Columnist
Andrew and his family are in the weekly Bible Study group that my husband, Mike, teaches and we have grown to love and appreciate them so very much. Andrew has a depth of passion for the Lord that I’ve rarely seen. His insatiable quest for God is contagious and inspiring. Oh, that we should all have the fiery commitment to Jesus as does this young man! Andrew lives in Dallas Center, Iowa with his wife, Kari, and their children Kyra (10) and Dean (5). They attend the United Methodist church in Grimes, Iowa where they seek to love, encourage and serve the Dallas Center-Grimes community. Andrew recently graduated with a master’s degree in Organization Change and works at an insurance company in West Des Moines as a technology business partner. Now that grad school is complete, Andrew and Kari are working to build their family by seeking adoption from Bulgaria. They are creating a sustainable farm in the country where they hope to provide a place for the community to gather and celebrate the Excellencies of Jesus in all of life.
The youth generation thirsts for love where their hearts are secure enough to accept the dreams God has given them. They have dreams, but like the Promised Land, these dreams seem out of reach and almost like a promise of someone else’s inheritance. An inherited inheritance is distant and out of grasp. Who will model how to break through Mount Nebo (Deut 32:48)? Like Moses, who saw and then died on that mountain, our generations of today are searching for a pathway, however narrow it is, that leads them into the dreams and promises of God. They want a voice of hope in their lives because they know that they are created for greater things. But who will show them how to enter this narrow path and do what seemingly nobody knows how to do; who will walk on water?
As the young watch their elders struggle with walking into the Promised Land inheritance, there are some in the elder generation, not age wise but in maturity, who see the gathering of tomorrow’s spiritual family in Christ and are pronouncing the arrival of an exponential favor which can be grasped directly through the veil of God. This announcement is for today; namely, to live and breathe in the midst of God’s presence. Those who are in Christ carry with them a principled presence, an inheritance that opens a door for the youth generation of today. They declare the goodness of God in all places!
Principled presence enables believers to be a prophetic example of how we establish inheritance for the next generation. The principled presence means that when a spiritual father or mother gets a breakthrough, his or her descendents get a greater breakthrough (1 John 2:12-14). The principle is, that we have already overcome evil in Christ and we know God and simply ‘are’ in His presence. To desire delight in God and be a presence carrier is different than an opposing mindset of waiting and wishing for the return of Jesus today. Delight in God’s presence is the return of Christ today. Fathers and mothers MUST hear the voice of the Lord for this is the golden years of prosperity that enables descendents to inherit the land (Psalm 25:12-13).
Let’s heed the words of Solomon which are a template for setting up the next generation to experience more. This experience becomes tangible where victory sets the stage for a next generation of greater victory! Solomon received the principled presence of David when ‘in presence’ David built a temporary structure of worship, and in principle, Solomon built a permanent structure of God’s presence. David realized the heart of God is to receive the sacrifice of a broken spirit and contrite heart and he came up with a plan that violated the law he lived under, and he positioned the next generation for a New Testament reality. Solomon had the principle to carry this realization out on a greater scale only to fall because of ungodly alliances in his life.
The golden years of ending well in Jesus, is the establishment of communities who carry the worshiped presence of the Lord. This is the inheritance of a holy mature believer in Christ. This is the inheritance of Christ. Today is the day when individual priests are formed into a community of cities and nations, a spiritual house, where the presence of God is glorified (1 Peter 2:4). But who will do this?
Amos prophesied that in the last days, the tabernacle would be rebuilt and people would stand before the glory of God in constant worship (Amos 9:11-15). A presence oriented culture of worship will bring the harvest of nations. Bill Johnson stated recently, “We must give God a place where the presence of God permeates so much that it arrests the hearts of people and we learn to live in cities that love God well.” The father and mother generation must become an offering of the presence of God so the next generation can navigate the narrow road. The inheritance giver is one who will say, “Here am I, Send me!” (Isaiah 6: 8)
The Lord is saying to you, mother and father, “Are you congruent” within the glory upon glory presence upon your life?” As faithful stewards of God’s presence, let’s not get distracted like Solomon by making alliances with the culture of Babylon where the enemy is granted legal access into our lives. There is too much at stake for the next generation’s inheritance, their promised land, their dreams of God! We must live differently than ever before so that the hand does not write on the wall of our life, “MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN.” (Daniel 5:25) I pray that we will not be found incongruent.
The calling of Malachi 4:6 is for us, today. As fathers and mothers, living stones - I pray that we would be bearers of Gods glory in all places of life and call forth our dreaming sons and daughters to the Promised Land (Isaiah 43:7). We must refuse Babylon’s image of ourselves and take on the new re-creation as a principled presence believer (2 Cor. 5:17). The transforming impact of the formation of a spiritual house is the realization and agreement with God that “God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in him” – John Piper.
We are on Mount Nebo and proclaiming a blessing of the Excellencies of the living God in all of life. Rise up and carry His presence for “He made us a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that we may proclaim his Excellencies, the one who called us out of darkness into light.” (1 Peter 2:9) Tell me mother, “what beauty of God do you see in my life”? Tell me father, “what character of God do you see in me”? Plant the seed of God into my life father, and nourish me mother, with the womb God has given you. Give me a voice of love that secures my heart and a voice of hope that advances it. Give me life so that I may live and worship in the glory of God.
