THE LAUGHTER OF CHRIST
Dear people of God, I don’t know about you, but I’ve not seen too many pictures of the Lord Jesus depicted as laughing and yet I do know Him as a person of great joy. He carried it. He was it! He was, and is joy – continually. How do I know this? Well, we see it in Psalm 16:11 which has been a favorite scripture of mine for years because my spiritual mentor taught me a song with those words in it. It says: “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your Presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” Now, that’s pure, over the top joy! “Fullness of joy”? I say, bring it on, Lord! “Pleasures forever?” I say, bring it on, Lord! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for joy, and a lot of it.
I have to tell you how I was just minding my own business one recent morning when suddenly, ‘out of the blue’ the Holy Spirit came over me with a huge a dose of laughter. I just laughed and laughed and I didn’t even know what I was laughing about! But it felt good, really good, and I’m telling you, it was very refreshing to say the least. So my question to you at the top of 2013 is, “Are you in need of a heaping, healing dose of joy?” I’m sure many of you are.
Holy Spirit downloads
When this ‘holy laughter’ came upon me, the Holy Spirit revealed that He was ushering in a Laughter Revival! Well, that certainly made me chuckle, perhaps even with a bit of cynicism concluding in my own mind, ‘How could that be? There’s so much yuck and muck going on in the world?’ But later I repented of such thinking as the Lord began leading me to scripture after scripture confirming His ‘word’ to me, not the least of which is the familiar, “The joy of the Lord is our strength.” (Ps. 81:1) It’s quoted so often it seems to have been diluted to a nice trite phrase, but lacking power in our lives. I can assure you, many of us need that kind of powerful, overriding joy so we can climb the mountain of the Lord into new heights of glory and victory.
The day the Lord gave me this amazing word about a laughing revival that’s imminent, I was elated and blessed when I saw a similar word on the Elijah List by Bob Hartley. (See www.elijahlist.com) To read it in its entirety go to their web site, but here’s the part that got me laughing all over again as I read this ‘confirmation’ to what God had spoken to me. Bob Hartley had a powerful encounter with the Lord and in this encounter, “God revealed Himself to Bob as a laughing, celebrating and hope-filled Being.” I could just see Jesus this way having just experienced almost the same thing. Precious believers, we ought to see the Lord in this manner.
Think of it this way - hopefully many of you had good laughs with family and friends over the holidays as everyone relaxed over delicious meals, opening gifts and perhaps playing games. Why not enjoy this same kind of fun, laughter and enjoyment in the Family of God? It’s time. We’re ready. 2013 will certainly come with challenges as every year does, but it will also bring some of the best times of refreshing we’ve ever known in our spiritual lives! Which will you latch on to? Will it be tears or triumphs?
Here’s something that will bring a smile to your face as well. The day the Lord gave me the prophetic revelation about holy laughter coming to the Church, He told me to watch TV. Like me, you may be wondering about that since so much of TV these days is unwatchable. Knowing my childlike mind of not understanding this statement, I listened intently for His explanation of this. And here it is: TV represents - Triumphant Victories! Well, that’s a hallelujah statement in my book!
So it’s our choice of what we want to see. Will we choose tears or triumphs? Saints of God, His desire for us this year is that we truly SEE TV – His TV, not the world’s TV, not all the negatives, not all the heartache, sorrow and pains of the world, but His mighty manifest acts of revelation, understanding, wisdom, salvation, deliverance, provision, purity, love, healing, miracles, new spiritual insights, fresh encounters of glory with God and so much more. ALL that He is, He wants us to take hold of it. Let go and let God! If need be, let the world worry about the ‘unlucky #13’ as so many have spoken of. But for yourself, choose to think of ‘13’as the more than aspect of what God has for us this year. It’s the ‘baker’s dozen’ and I’m giving the Lord full reign to fire me up and shape me into an honorable vessel for His glory so I can be a witness to a lost and dying world. They will begin to want what I have! As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord just as Joshua declares in 24:15.
Which camp are you in? Choose this day whom you will serve, whom you will believe, whom you will put your trust. (Heb. 3:7) Whichever way you choose, this my friend, will determine whether you experience God’s Holy Laughter or not. Go ahead and laugh as did Abraham and Sara in Genesis 17:17 and 18:11-15 in the face of insurmountable odds. The joy of the Lord overtook them. “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” No!
A time to laugh
Here are more scriptures to encourage you with this wonderful, healing laughter, even though you may be going through many trials. Chin up. Smile. Laugh at the enemy!
Psalm 126:1-2, “When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.’” And many of you are aware of verse 5, "Those who so in tears shall reap with joyful shoting." Ecclesiastes 3:4 says that there is "a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance." I sense the Lord saying that weeping and mourning are over. It’s time to laugh and dance because of His goodness. (See also Isa. 61)
Proverbs 31:25 is for all God’s children when it says, “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.” So go ahead and smile at your future. It’s going to be a good one.
Look into Luke 6:21 and be delighted in your soul as the Lord declares, "Blessed are you who weep, for you shall laugh."
Lost our marbles?
Will this be a trouble free year? Certainly not. Jesus said in this life we will have tribulation, but to rejoice for He has overcome and in Him, we are ‘more than conquerors.’ (John 16:33; Rom. 8:37) I love that about my Lord, don’t you? It’s all about rejoicing even in the midst of fierce enemy assaults. Please don’t fight your battles alone. It’s not about you, it’s about Him. The focus is not you, it’s Him. It’s about His revealing glory for all generations who will bow before Him and give Him all the glory His Name deserves, the Name above all names. “Rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be OVERJOYED when His glory is revealed.” (1 Peter 4:13) When you see your deliverance straight away – astounding, laughing joy will overcome you. Go for it. Don’t hold back!
I can assure you that the first time I ever saw this thing called holy laughter in a church, I was quite offended. I thought it was very disrespectful. And as the Lord so often does to our sense of pride, He overtook me one day with such deep laughter that I could not contain myself! I laughed and laughed. And I can tell you, it was very healing. I felt a refreshing release. It was as if all my troubles had been washed away. Not so much had changed on the outside (at least not immediately), but on the inside of me, in the depths of my heart, I felt so healed, so whole, so alive! Do you desire this? If so, let go and let God! Let Him have control of your life from the inside out and watch your world change. You know precious people of God, the world is actually looking to us to see what we will do in these trying times, and when we laugh in the face of extreme difficulties they’ll think we’ve totally lost it! Nevertheless, they’ll want what we have and will beat a path to our door, and that will be easy evangelism to be sure.
When I told our guest columnist, Martie Cornell about this Laughter Revival the Lord showed me, she said: “I soooooo love it! The world will really think we've lost our marbles when seeing us laugh in the midst of trouble, OR they'll want what we have. Hopefully, the latter! What a joy to even THINK OF spreading the joy!!!”
My response to those marbles? “Let’s go for it! Laugh yourself into TV’s!”

I offer that which I believe the Lord would have me share with the Body of Christ as a “Guest Editorial” – words journaled in my prayer closet wherein the Lord was dealing with my fears.
The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Allow Me to enter in fully. Where there is love, there is peace, there is joy, there is perfection – perfection in My Son. I see you through My Son, and I see My Son in you. Go forth as I send you this day. Redeem the time for the days are evil. Let My Light shine forth in the darkness that all men might see and glorify your Father in heaven. Go forth. Be. Trust. Be wise as serpents, gentle as doves. Be alert at all times. Go not to the left or right lest I give you directives. Come to Me early, pronto, in any given situation. I will give you wisdom for the asking. Know My voice. Follow Me, and I will make you a fisher of men. Cast your net into the sea. We have some catching up to do. Reel in those who I lead you to, not by power, nor by might, but by MY Spirit, saith the Lord. The hour is at hand. It is time. Now is the time for salvation. Now. NOW is the time. Come to Me early for all your concerns. Now. Now is the time. Come, and I will answer. Have I not said I will open the windows of heaven to all who believe?
In Me, you have all you need. Come higher. Come to My storage room -- come see what I have in store for you. Linger not. Labor not. Enter in by the Blood of the Lamb. All that is Mine is yours. Allow Me to show you the way. Allow Me to make Myself known. Allow Me to enter in, and I will show you Who I AM. I will show you Who I AM in greater measure. So, fear not, it is I. Come. Come to Me. Let’s walk on water. Trust Me. Keep your eyes on Me. Look not upon earthly things which rust and corrupt. They are temporal. Put your mind on heavenly matters, which matter to Me, for I am the Way, the narrow way, where many are called, but few are chosen. Why? They choose not the right way to go. So call unto Me. Choose this day whom ye will serve. Call unto Me, and I will answer you and show you things you do not know. Draw near, and I will draw near to you.
Come, all who thirst, and I will give you living waters, a river of life from everlasting to everlasting. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Come to Me. You will see into Me. Into Me, see intimacy. You will see into Me. You will see My heart for you. You will see My heart for your neighbor. You will see My heart. You will know My heart. You will hear My heart. You will know, yes, you will know Me as you come to Me, just as you are. Beautiful (in His sight).
How lovely are the feet of those who bring good news. Go. Feed My sheep. Go, go, go, go forth! Take My hand. Together we can change this land. So, be wise as serpents, gentle as doves. Go forth in Your Father’s love. Let it shine forth, dispelling the darkness. Redeem the time for these days are evil. But I have a plan, and My plan will go forth as I have spoken before the foundations of this earth were set in place. My plan cannot be stopped by hell’s fury. My plan will unfold before your very eyes. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. His mercies are new EVERY morning. So, rejoice in the Lord and, again, I say REJOICE!
“Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:14-16).
