THE FEAR OF THE LORD
Every December, I begin asking the Lord what He would have us put on our IWG book marks for the coming year. When people buy our books, we include the book mark for that year, so when it was time to pick a scripture I knew what the focus should be. The Lord has had this on my heart for over six months. Amazingly, I’ve discovered it’s also been on other hearts as well. This is exciting news! The reverential fear of the Lord is about to fall and it will leave us completely breathless with astounding breakthroughs of wonder and holy delight! Are you ready for that? I certainly am.
So what is the verse on our IWG book marks for this year? It’s from Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” It’s no surprise that many people today are despising wisdom and instruction thinking they ‘know it all.’ Some are trying very hard to be wise in their own eyes not necessarily humbling themselves enough to learn from others. “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn from evil.” (Prv. 3:7. My emphasis) I recently received a letter from a prison inmate and his very location notes that he’s learned that the hard way. However, his letter was heartwarming in that he’s soon to be released and is searching for a spiritual father to guide him in a godly path upon his return to society to live a new life of freedom in more ways than one. Bless his heart. Oh, that we all would want to grow in the knowledge, admonition, and fear of the Lord God Almighty!
If any of us thought the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and beyond into the 2,000’s has seen its share of arrogance, we just might be in for a surprise. Arrogance has been growing like an out of control weed on a dry prairie in the hearts of people everywhere – or so it seems. I’m sure every generation thinks the one before it may not have lived up to its full potential, squandering opportunities for advancement. But one thing seems clear, without the fear of the Lord - the lone, lost soul will surely shrivel up and die. The soul that sins, the same shall die. (Ezkl. 18:44, 20; 1 John 1:9) Who wants that?!
Fear of God is a good thing, a very good thing. The phrase ‘fear of God’ is embedded in every book of the Bible, God’s divine, holy Word. In this glorious love letter to humanity, the scriptures declare that the fear of the Lord is indeed our lifesaver. It’s our wisdom, our strength, and a host of positive insights for growth, healing, deliverance, provision and so many life-changing attitudes that define the victorious soul in Christ Jesus.
Wouldn’t right now, today, and this whole year be a good time to invest in humbling ourselves under the holy, reverential fear of the Lord? It can bring nothing but good. If we truly desire any ‘smarts’ at all, any on-going knowledge, any true growth of mind, soul, spirit and matters of the heart, then the fear of the Lord is going to be the beginning of it.
When was the last time you or I fell on our knees because the fear of God encompassed us? If indeed this is so, then Amen! If not, adamantly seek it. Let’s not delay. After all, this is the First Commandment to love the Lord with everything that is within us. Deuteronomy 10:12 says: “Now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him and to serve the Lord Your God with all your heart and with all your soul…” (Deut. 10:12. My emphasis)
King of kings, Lord of lords
Right now today, and for 2014, purpose to practice the reverential fear of the Lord because in that act alone, God will meet you in new and dramatic ways you never dreamed possible. Don’t worry so much about all your New Year’s resolutions that are all too quickly forgotten, just go back to basics. Start with the First Commandment and see if that doesn’t begin to change your outlook on life, your attitude, your desires, your commitments, your relationships. If we don’t have this one thing in place, not only for today, or for 2014 and beyond, we won’t have much of anything. “Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep all my commandments always, that it may be well with them and with their sons.” (Deut. 5:29) Watch family and relational dynamics change this year as you and I concentrate and consecrate ourselves to live under the divine, holy, reverential fear of the Lord abiding in His Presence and His commands.
All the accolades, accomplishments and titles of earth’s realm cannot compare to that of the King of Glory -- Jesus, Lord of lords and King of kings! The One who encompasses all of life ought to be approached with a holy fear. The purity of this kind of fear in the Lord ushers in an awe and wonder arresting our hearts, causing praise and adoration to flow from deep within. Loving the King of glory brings rewards the world can never equal!
A prophetic word from the Lord
As I stated at the beginning of this month’s IWG Journal, it was about six months ago that I began to hear the Lord speaking to me about the holy, reverential fear of God coming in ways we’ve not seen, perhaps even since the times of the New Testament. I don’t know what those ways all are, but I do know it’s coming beyond a shadow of a doubt because He said so!
On the night of my birthday last June, for some reason I couldn’t sleep very well and decided to get up and spend time with the Lord. It was 2:22 AM and it wasn’t until 3:15 AM that I began to write in my personal journal of what He was speaking to my heart. Please read the following with an open, longing heart to enter in to all the Lord has for us in this coming year.
“It’s more than healings, Linda. A dying soul is a dying soul whether they are in Africa, America, or anywhere else in the world. They must come to ME to be saved. (John 3:16)
Don’t limit yourself.
Looking through a soul and calling it as it is [a prophetic word to someone] can bring holy terror. It’s the ‘more than hearing’… it’s similar to when the Apostle Peter called out the man Ananias, and his wife Sapphira, who sold their property, but lied about the amount. (Acts 5:1-16)) Peter knew it and saw it because I [the Lord] revealed it to him, and the man and his wife dropped dead instantly. This brought holy fear. (“…great fear came over all who heard it.”)
Some are about to drop dead-like, and they’ll come to know Me in that state. Holy fear is coming. It will change many hearts. People will be crying out for mercy. Some will want to call an ambulance, but don’t do it unless I show you.
Lightning will flash from literally nowhere, except that it will be by My Hand! This too shall bring holy fear. My lightning will be as a sword – My Word – penetrating hearts and they will cry out for mercy.
I am with you always. I will never leave you or forsake you. I chose those who are childlike in spirit for this assignment because they are trusting of Me and not fearful of man. I take the base things and use them for My glory. I use what or who I want to use. I confound the wise of this world that they may know only ONE who is wise.
Do not fret or worry. I am with you,” says the Lord.
[Matt. 11:25, “At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants.” Matt. 17:3, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”]
About a week after this amazing prophetic word from the Lord, under the unction of the Holy Spirit, I found myself declaring that He would lose His holy lightning of revelation, insight and understanding and that it would begin to flow like a mighty river. “At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them.” (Deut. 32:1-3; 33:1-2) Suddenly in my spirit, I heard a thunderous clapping sound coming from God’s people all over the world! I felt a holy fright from on High that began to fill the people of God. They were clapping their hands vigorously and thunderously because of amazement and pure joy! “O clap your hands all peoples; shout to God with the voice of joy. For the Lord Most High is to be feared, a great King over all the earth.” (Ps. 47:1-2, my emphasis. See also Isa. 55:11-13)
It was then that the Holy Spirit said to me, “Doubts bring droughts.” I was simply overcome with weeping and vowed to believe! Our God is amazingly powerful, well able to do above and beyond all we can ask or think. And I’m thinking and asking big! How about you? “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.” (Eph. 3:20) What an Amen and Hallelujah! So be expectant as you pray, as you worship, as you read His Word, allowing holy, reverential fear of God to consume your very being!
When my husband and I were building our home, as the two-by-fours went up and plaster boards put in place, we wrote scriptures above the doorways and on the walls. So literally, we are surrounded by God’s Word and we always sense His abiding Presence, as do others who come into our home. We did just as Deuteronomy 6:13 says, “You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” But its verse 1 and 24 that are pertinent. “You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His Name…So the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today.” (My emphasis)
Our 2014 will be quite memorable! And just as the picture at the top of this month’s IWG Journal denotes the snowy rose -- out of your coldness, your barrenness, your trials, testings, and tribulations, there shall bloom the Rose of Sharon to spread beauty and the holy, reverential fear of the Lord upon your life now and forevermore! “I am the rose of Sharon, the lily of the valleys. Like a lily among the thorns…” Song of Solomon 2:1-2a. Fear the Lord! Rejoice! Clap your hands!
“You have been instrumental in my walk, so encouraging. The Holy Spirit flows out of you both and you are precious in His sight, and one day you will hear, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’ I honor you, Linda and Mike.” Minnesota
“I’ve received your IWG Journals for years and have always wanted to write telling you how each one has ministered to me in some way or another. There was a certain situation I was going through, so I decided to take Holy Communion using one of your prayers. I experienced the Presence of God and His peace broke the heaviness. I’ve been blessed, encouraged, and challenged to buck up and be a good soldier. Many times the timing of your Journals was supernatural. “ Iowa
