HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Let's Begin Again!
Have you ever played a game with your kids or grandkids and when you get done, they’ll say, “Let’s do it again! Please! Please!” And that may be how many of you feel with the ending of 2014 and may be wondering how 2015 could be any better. Then there are those who want to put this past year very far behind them because it’s been so difficult. To be truthful, the latter is the kind of year I had. The year that has finally ended has been one of the hardest ones of my life with a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Nevertheless! And remember that word ‘nevertheless’ – because with God, there is always ‘the nevertheless. ’ Why? Because He truly is my Maker, Creator, Savior, Most Faithful Friend of all friends, King of Glory, Lover of my soul, Healer, Deliverer, Restorer, Provider and so much more. He is certainly worthy of praise and thanksgiving at all times, in all circumstances. The good, the bad and the ugly come to each one of us in some form or other every year of our lives, but it’s what we do with it that makes all the difference in the world. Are you moaning and groaning because of the load you’ve had to carry, or are you handing it off to Him who loves you beyond words, so that you can skip through each day knowing all is being taken care of?! I choose the latter.
Each day that begins is a new start for you and I. Whatever was of yesterday is gone and can’t be changed. Nevertheless as we live in and through our Holy Redeemer, Jesus, He makes all things new! “Behold, the former things have come to pass, now I declare new things; before they spring forth I proclaim them to you. Sing to the Lord a new song, sing His praises from the end of the earth!” [Isa. 42:9-10] If you messed up yesterday, just pick yourself up with the power of the Holy Spirit and move on! We were not created to wallow in our iniquities, but to climb up higher, not by our own strength, but by God Most High. Now that’s a New Year’s I can deal with…just to know each day is so fresh, so new, so full of potential, that I ought to wake up every morning of this year excited to see what the Lord will do with me, and through me.
New Highway and New Song
With the New Year now having begun, isn’t it best to let go and let God guide your soul into safe harbors? Each one of us must stop trying to do the old things the old ways, some of which haven’t ever worked for us. But there is a better way and it’s called the High Way, His Way – God’s Way as it says in Isaiah 35:8, “A highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for him who walks that way, and fools will not wander on it.” To know the elation of victory in one’s life, there must be holiness in every area – in thought, word and deed. If there is any impurity, unforgiveness, bitterness, grudges, resentment, harsh words spoken, things stolen or whatever - those things that have taken a portion of our souls into darkness - it’s time to release them to God Most High and let Him move into our hearts taking every inch of it ushering in’ healing and light.’ After all, didn’t we just sing those CHRISTmas caroles that promise us healing and light if we just let Jesus into our hearts? We ought to sing those songs not just from rote or tradition, but with every fiber of our being.
Psalm 40:2-3 declares, “He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord.” Our testimony for 2015 is to have this new song in our hearts and be ready and willing to share the Good News of our own deliverance so that people will want what we have!
I’m sure many began the year with a toast having used a glass of wine raised in expectations for the New Year. However, we must realize we can’t continue attempting to put old wine into new wineskins, otherwise everything bursts and things can get very messy. [See Matt. 9:17] If we don’t reroute our hearts, we’ll live beneath our calling for this year. It’s a new hour, a new day, a new year, so go full force into the newness and freshness of the Holy Spirit now. His peace is so enjoyable! “The Lord’s lovingkindness indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Now that’s a good word to begin 2015! Every day, just get up and hang on to the Lord! He won’t let go of you, if you hang to on His every Word, His every promise written to you and I in His Divine Breath, the Holy Scriptures. Read it, consume it, quote it, love it, eat of it daily. The new you will emerge more and more!
The New You
A lot of women my age, or younger, would surely have one of those face lifts if they could afford one. Nevertheless, it is only the Lord Himself that can put that holy glow upon your face as you live in His Presence day in and day out. Moses lived in the Presence of God, so much so, that his constant communication with Him caused His face to shine, even bringing a holy fear on those who came near him. [Ex. 34:29-30] He lived to be 120 and God’s Word says that “his eye was not dim, nor his vigor abated.” [Deut. 34:7] Now that’s a God-thing to be sure, and had nothing to do with man. It goes to show that those who live for the Lord have a very different countenance about them. We should seek after that because so much of the world around us is dark, cold and evil and we must not be a reflection of worldly schemes. We are called to bring ‘healing and light’ as the CHRISTmas song says through Jesus’ Name. Don’t just look the part, be the part. Be holy for He is holy. [Lev. 11:44-45]
The new you will have an undivided heart and a new spirit because everything within you is focused on the Lord Jesus. [Ezkl. 11:19] Paul writes in Ephesians 4:22-24, “…that in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”
So have yourself a merry, happy, fulfilled, blessed New Year!
