THE HOLY TERRIFYING
Something of an amazing magnitude is happening in the Body of Christ – worldwide. The intensity of warfare is increasing and the church is in transition – BIG TIME. Could it be because Jesus is getting closer to coming back for His true Bride which is not a lesbian, homosexual, bi-sexual, transgendered, nor a harem as seen on the TV Show ‘sister wives’ or anything else but what He’s commissioned her to be according to Ephesians 5:27 – pure and spotless. His bride is cleansed, purified, and empowered by the Blood of the Lamb of God. (Rev. 7) Repentance through the forgiveness of sins and committing one’s life to our Lord Jesus is the way into godly, holy, everlasting truth. Associate that as well with being washed and strengthened through partaking of spiritual intimacy with the Lord in Holy Communion. Revelation, insight and understanding begin to flow into your mind, heart and spirit beyond anything you could imagine. In fact, Holy Communion, when taken as the encounter with God it’s ordained to be and not a ritual or tradition, will catapult you into knowing what the ‘ holy terrifying’ of God really is. It’s the reverential fear of the Lord! Therefore, the battle is on for the true Bride of Christ and this fight can be likened to a world-wide movie premiere appearing in a town near you! The fight’s on for holiness, purity and being a true reflection of God’s glory and power.
“And he said with a loud voice, ‘Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters.’ And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, ‘Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality.” (Rev. 14:7-8) The hour of humanity’s test for the Lord’s true Bride is already taking place. People around the world are breaking God’s covenantal bonds of holy marriage which represents Christ and His Bride, the Church. (Rev. 19) They’re trying to redefine the divine! Indeed there is coming an end time worldwide fight over this very thing. It’s called: Armageddon. We must awaken for the hour in which we live. We’ve truly entered into the time of the Armageddon bride, those who’ve forsaken God’s Word. (See Announcements)
Horrid or holy?
There is the ‘horrid terrifying’ of the enemy that wreaks havoc over people’s lives bringing defeat, destruction and eternal death. Then there’s the ‘holy terrifying’ of God Most High who does such amazing wonders that it brings the holy, reverential fear of the Lord to the soul of man because of its magnitude and power. Let’s pray for that to occur in our lives! We desperately need that now in this precarious hour in which we live.
I’ve seen the ‘holy terrifying,’ especially throughout the Word of God and there are just too many to put in this issue. But I’ve also seen this in dreams, visions and encounters with the Lord personally. When any one of us experiences the Lord God Almighty in a powerful, dramatic way, you feel this intensely, almost to the point of it actually being terrifying. This is what is coming. Pray for its manifestation in your life and in the area of your influence.
I truly believe that because the apostles experienced the ‘holy terrifying’ of God, they were well equipped to go out and preach the Gospel without any thought to its cost to their very lives. In Matthew 14:25-26 Jesus comes to them walking on the Sea of Galilee in the darkness of an early morning storm and they are ‘terrified.’ Some versions say they ‘screamed in terror!’ I can’t even imagine how strange it would be so see someone walking on dark, fierce, tossing waters. It’s almost incomprehensible! Then of all things, Jesus asks Peter to get out of the boat and walk to Him on those same windy, stormy waters. Now that’s terrifying to me because I can’t even swim! But Peter, keeping His eyes focused on the Lord Jesus, does exactly that – until he takes His eyes off of Him and begins to sink. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus!
The sea represents humanity. All the earth seems to be groaning more than it ever has before. Cries for the release of the sons of God are intensifying just as when a woman is in excruciating labor about to give birth. (Rom. 8:22) Oh the intensity of her cries! Just as the winds were blowing fierce that dark night of the soul for the apostles, so too are the spiritual winds of our day. Shall we sink, or walk on water? Shall we attain to the powerful, ‘terrifying of God’ or succumb to the ‘horrid terrifying’ of satan’s influence and man’s wanton pleasure of sin which leads to eternal death? Choose wisely.
They were terrified
I love the ‘terrifying’ of God because it means that something utterly and shockingly wonderful has occurred by the power of God. This is what we should be after. Consider when Peter, James and John saw Jesus in all the light of His glory shining brighter than the sun! Matthew 17:6 says they became terrified. Imagine if Jesus came to you today or tonight and His countenance took your breath away because of the magnitude of His power, brilliance and glory? You might even fall as dead men like they did in Matthew 28:4 when the guards shook with fear and became like dead men when they saw even God’s angels at the resurrection. How much more so the Lord Jesus Himself?! In verse 8 of that same chapter, Mary Magdalene and the ‘other Mary’ left the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to tell the disciples…and on the way, they encountered the Lord Jesus and fell at His feet! Wouldn’t you? But let’s be honest. Even though the soldiers saw a glorious angel, their hearts were still cold and unrepentant. In fact, they went so far as to tell a lie saying Jesus was stolen from the grave. Their fear of man was greater than the fear of God. And that my friend, is a terrible place to be. But sadly, that’s where many are these days.
The reverential fear of God is something to reach for because it’s all through God’s Word. Here are a few more passages to consider:
- Ps. 145:19, “He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him.”
- Ps. 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
- Ps. 130:4 “Fear God!”
- Prv. 10:27 “The fear of the Lord prolongs life.”
- Luke 8:25 says the disciples were fearful and amazed because Jesus commanded the winds to be still and the winds obeyed.
- Mark 5:15 speaks of the legion of demons Jesus cast out of a man and those who witnessed it became ‘frightened’ at such power to do such a thing.
- Exodus 34:10, “It is a fearful thing that I am going to perform for you.”
- Genesis 35:5 - As God’s people journeyed, others around them were in terror of God! Why? They felt an unusual sense of the holy, reverential fear of the Lord near them. That ought to happen everywhere we go.
Precious saints, on January 12th of this year at 12:20 AM I was in prayer when suddenly the Holy Spirit overtook me and I began to journal our encounter:
“Saturate me with Your Breath. Saturate me with Your Living Word”… (saying it over and over) when suddenly I saw a valley of dry, dead bones in Iowa.
“Let them arise, O Lord! Raise up a powerful army of believers. Saturate them with Your Breath. Saturate them with Your Living Word. Raise the dead – those dead in their sins, or sicknesses, diseases, disasters, distresses, doubts, debts, dreariness, darkness, despair.
I see a valley of dry bones coming to life – 500,000 souls! (Ezkl. 37; and also my vision of 8/4/96 of 500,000 souls being saved in Iowa alone)
Come Holy Breath of God and revive us! Speak to these dry bones in people’s lives! Speak to them and say, ‘LIVE!’ LIVE by the Breath of God, LIVE by the Living Word! Come to life and live. Live LIFE! LIVE! Live life fully and wonderfully. LIVE. Be alive and free!
Let Your authority come upon me (us) to call it forth according to Your true, holy, LIVING Breath, Your LIVING Word, Your eternal Word.
Immanuel - God is with us. (Isa.7:14; 8:8) His Name is great and greatly to be praised! Arise O people and walk! Be filled with the Breath of God and LIVE!
Saturate us, O Lord, with Your holy, living, divine, majestic Breath. (Heb. 4:12) Hallelujah to Immanuel!
You sent Your Word, Your Breath, and healed our diseases. (Ps. 107:20) Glory to Your Name forevermore!
The holy, reverential FEAR OF THE LORD is coming! Thousands upon thousands – fearing His Name – JESUS, JESUS, JESUS!
Let the HOLY FEAR come, O Lord, let it come! Breathe on us now. Breathe on us…saturate us with Your Living Word!”
“And when He had said this, He breathed on them…” (John 20:27)
We need to ask the Lord what He would have us do with this prophetic word and not let it fall to the ground. Perhaps you could do your own study on the ‘fear of the Lord’ and no doubt receive even deeper revelations. But know this, He desires to do this wonderful thing in your life!
In Matthew 16:15 Jesus asks His disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” How do we respond? Is He a legend, or LIFE ETERNAL? If a man dies, he shall live again to be sure, but where will he live again, in hell or heaven? (John 11:25) It’s expedient to tell others that we get to choose now and it’s important to choose before your next breath comes because you may not have another! Let’s tell people about Jesus! What is your testimony of Him? What has He done for you? Tell others. What is He about to do? Tell others.
Stay true to His Word, people, and do not partake of the leaven of the Pharisees and Saducees that is creeping into the church today who do not abide by the holy truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially in regard to God’s holy covenant of marriage. Unfortunately, a great majority in Jesus day of the religious establishment ‘didn’t know’ because they were not walking in the truth of God’s Word or in the powerful, holy fear of His Presence. Their response to Jesus’ deity was: “We do not know.” (Matt. 16:6, 11-12; Matt. 21:27) They were stuck in their own lifeless rituals, rules and traditions. (Mark 7) Consequently, they didn’t KNOW Him when He was standing right in front of them! What a loss! It’s happening in our day as well.
There’s a very sad passage in Matthew 21:14-16 where the leaders of the temple/church became indignant at Jesus because of all the wonderful things He was doing. Amazing! Watch the lukewarm church persecute those who are in God’s holy truths walking them out daily no matter the cost. It’s already begun. (See also Mark 11:17-18)
I believe that God can and will raise up dead bones! He’s bringing on the ‘TERRIFYING of God’ to show forth His power, splendor, majesty, glory….and all that He is in holiness and truth. Pray for the utterly impossible because what is not possible with man is possible with God. (Luke 18:27)
Try this for one week: speak, proclaim, declare, decree that what is not possible with man is possible with God; that the ‘holy terrifying’ of God Most High will fall upon you. Just try it for 7 days. It could change your circumstances! Declare God’s Breath, His divine Word back to Him according to Job 22:28 that if you ‘decree a thing, it shall be established.’
Believe beyond your humanness and get into godliness, purity, holiness, and the divine Breath of God (His Word) wherein lie your power, strength, healing, deliverance, provision and so much more. Remember too, the spiritual intimacy of Holy Communion will bring you to that place and we’re going to need that in this critical hour. Let us begin to cry out to God for the ‘holy terrifying’ – those things that totally shake up the church - and the world! “Have faith in God and do not doubt…believe and you will receive!” (Matt. 21:20, 22)

This is Karen in Swaziland Africa. We were traveling companions on a tour to Israel a number of years ago and I can tell you - she’s one of the most beloved women of God I’ve ever met! She has a fire for God that is contagious and has inspired me for years with her tenacity of passion for Him and reaching others for His glory. Her commitment to Jesus is uniquely inspiring as she’s given up everything she’s known in America, (so hard to leave family especially!), and moved with her husband Jerry, to bring the Gospel to Africa. They are full time missionaries with Children's Cup International Relief where they are directors for Global Leadership Academy. They also manage one of 20 orphan Care Points. How does one get from the cornfields of Iowa to the mission field of Africa.... it's an amazing journey of grace and faith. Jerry and Karen have four children and 6 grand children, all living in Denver, Colorado.
“It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.” Daniel 4:2
We began serving in foreign missions and spent the first year in South Africa. I had never quite experienced such favor from the Lord as we walked in those beginning weeks and months.
Doors closed and opened and we then accepted a position in a neighboring country, Swaziland. We were excited about the opportunity but I was not prepared for what unfolded. We lived in 5 different places in six weeks; I was homesick; we were robbed three times; we had limited internet and it had rained nonstop for nearly three months. I felt alone and there wasn’t much joy. I emailed a friend my long tale of woes and patiently awaited an encouraging word in response.
The response was: “Endure hardship as discipline: God is treating you as sons…..No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:7, 11 At first, I was shocked and disappointed as those were not immediate words of comfort, but because the Word is alive…. It didn’t take me long to recognize the Lord’s love was so great He used those rough things to show me my heart. I had only been grumbling and complaining until then and longing for the favor we had experienced before. It’s now four years later and I can look back on those days and realize the “ministry of the interior” was at hand. Growing into Christ’s image is much more valuable than the mission work we do. I look at those days as miraculous signs to help transform my heart. It is my pleasure to tell you that God really does use all things to work toward good.
